The first sacking of Roman was not only highly profitable but the Vandal King's troops actually enjoyed the rape, pillage and plunder the wealthiest city in the world had to offer.  A weak Roman Emperor made it much too tempting to do it all over again. It was only by a plea made by the bishop of Roman that the Vandal King agreed to spare the lives of the peasantry - because honestly, what challenge was there in slaughtering a hard working, industrious population that could, potentially, supply them endlessly with easily won wealth. Of course, the King needed to hide this change of plans from his loyal lieutenants who were most looking forward  to raiding the churches and convents for a second time. That was a bridge he would cross when the got there...

Umm. Hello kids. Is it okay if I come play? You see, I had this neglected thing lying around and I needed to write something, and I spotted your September challenge, and, well, they kind of seemed to go together.

Title: Cau Aut Mors
Fandom: Saiyuki (85)
Rating: R
Words: 3300 approx

Summary: Haterius has made his choice and accepted his fate. Fate of course has other ideas.

Notes: Sort of plotty (?) sequel to some comment!porn I wrote somewhere once. Except I can't find it. But I know it was for something [livejournal.com profile] indelicateink drew. Does that help? . Edit: For your possible edification, it is here. Thanks to the ever-on-the-ball [livejournal.com profile] smillaraaq for hunting it down! Anyway, you can probably read this without having read that. Of course it's not beta'd, so all mistakes and woeful inaccuracies are all me.

For [livejournal.com profile] daegaer -- to go with the marvelous double-drabbles Slave For You and Accessory: this is an imagining of 1920s artist Crawford's draft of an idea for his model Schuldig as a subjugated Roman slave. <3

For the ancient Rome challenge, sort of.

Title: Slave for You
Pairing: Crawford/Schuldig
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Notes: 250 words, inspired by this post of [livejournal.com profile] indelicateink's, in which she links to some paintings of slave markets in ancient Rome which are educational and show the horror of slavery and are totally not just an excuse to draw naked girls being looked at by lustful men. If Crawford was an artist in the 1920s he would be happily producing just this sort of art of his red-haired model.

Shake out your toga--in September we're going to Ancient Rome.

We welcome your Ancient Rome-themed Saiyuki and/or Weiss Kreuz works all throughout September!

Political intrigue. Gladiators. Slaves. Soldiers. Scholars. Actors. Wealthy patrons. Prostitutes. Banquets. Brothels. Festivals. Orgies. The Senate. Temples. Roman households. The Colosseum. I'm leaving out so many keywords!

But the main keyword here is fun--since our source material is anime and manga after all, please don't be put off submitting work for fears of denting historical accuracy. Elements of fantasy are entirely welcome in this challenge! We are suspending our disbelief in favor just having a good time with our oiled gladiators, engaging prostitutes, and sharp-eyed senators.

(Well, one caveat, as always-- the Romans may have occasionally liked their men rather young, but per LJ's terms of service, let's keep all the lovin' legal by 2011 standards.)

Please let us know if you have any questions. Enjoy!
